Still "Alive in HOPE!"

For those who've known this blog for years, know that I am still "Alive in HOPE!" Still looking at life through the eyes of faith and finding HOPE in a "hopeless" world... The only difference is that I now feel called to do so from the back of a bicycle on a 500+ mile pilgrimage; to share a message of hope from Our Lady of Fatima!

For the courage to be Catholic!

Before leaving the Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help, I received an invitation that I couldn't turn down...  Such a grace!

On the morning of June 9th, after a long afternoon and overnight in Manitowoc, I biked out early to a very special morning Mass:

Before I left, I was invited to walk the grounds with a beautifully faithful religious sister.  She asks for our prayers...  A convent that once held 3000 religious sisters now holds only about 300.  While they still wear the habit, it has changed so much over the years.  I could see how deeply it hurt her heart to share the discouragement she feels.  She told me that she is persecuted among her sisters for being conservative and working to return her order to what it once was.

As I biked on, I carried her prayers and I ask you to pray as well.

For our religious sisters and brothers...  For the courage to be Catholic!

Praised be Jesus Christ!!

"Will you trust me?"

When I first sensed the call to #ReparationRide, I thought that the timing and route of the ride would be determined simply by circumstance:

First, Christopher was already planning a bicycle pilgrimage from Holy Hill to the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe between June 12th and June 18th.  I knew that this would allow us to bike together and not place any added stress on him to bike the distance twice; and...

Second, after last year's "Bike for Marriage," I knew that we needed to maintain that route and the dates of travel, allowing us to again arrive at the Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help by June 26th (the anniversary of the Supreme Court's tragic decision with regards to marriage in our country).

That left only one leg of the journey to plan.  It seemed to make the most sense that I start biking at the Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help and complete that initial, 130-mile stretch before joining Christopher.  In that way, we could end the pilgrimage together.

As it turned out, God had another reason for the route to be what it would soon be.

On the morning of June 8, 2017, I biked out to the Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help from my place of lodging on the east side of Green Bay.

I left my bike in front of the visitors' center and walked inside to see what is a new addition to the Shrine (for me).  On the wall, I found a copy of Bishop David Ricken's Decree on the Authenticity of the Apparitions of 1859.  These words (excerpts from Our Lady's words to Sr. Adele) seemed to jump out at me...
I am the Queen of Heaven who prays for the conversion of sinners and I wish you to do the same... Go and fear nothing, I will help you.
These words of Our Lady really are timeless.  In that moment, they spoke to my heart and I knew the reason I must depart from this holy place and that it would be my mission to pray for the conversion of sinners and to return here.

As I knelt to pray the Rosary in the chapel of the apparition, I sensed a confirmation of the mission I was about to undertake and, in my heart, heard this question:
Will you trust me?
I knew that, for me, that would be the greatest act of reparation... to truly TRUST God in the days ahead.

I had planned to get on the road after Mass and a light lunch, but again God had other plans and I was humbled to begin receiving prayer requests right there at the Shrine.

After sitting down to eat lunch and gather my thoughts a bit, one of the Fathers of Mercy blessed me and my bike and the journey began...

Marian Center for Peace

After racing to stay ahead of a severe thunderstorm today, we were blessed to arrive early in Wisconsin Rapids, where we are staying over tonight.

I LOVE how God works!  😃  First, He brought us in ahead of the storm.  (The leading edge caught up with me just as I entered Nekoosa, but had dissipated a great deal by that time.)  Then, He used our early arrival to allow us time for Adoration!

I was able to carry your intentions to Jesus at this beautiful, little chapel (the Marian Center for Peace)!

I so wish that I could post more here on this blog, but it has been easier (while on the trail) to interact with our Facebook community page.  You can find pictures, comments and even live-stream videos there.  When I am home and have access to my laptop computer once again, I will try to share more of the stories and pictures from the pilgrimage here.  I thank you for your patience with me as Iearn to surf the social media.

Your prayers are a source of great strength and support for us as we continue our eastward journey.

May you be BLESSED!

Pilgrim Image

I am praying for your intentions tonight before the pilgrim image of Our Lady of Guadalupe (a life-sized scan that has been touched to the tilma of Saint Juan Diego)!  She is traveling with us on this second leg of the journey.  I SO wish I could post a picture of the image here, but am still having some technical issues, so I'll post a picture of her on our facebook page.  May you be blessed!

Day 1

The #ReparationRide has officially begun!

Aaaand...  My phone won't let me load the app I need to post pictures to this site.  (Do you remember my saying how I miss my laptop? 😉)

God be praised!  He is granting many opportunities to offer things up in reparation.

I've always said that you know something grace-filled is about to happen when things begin to go wrong.

As I rode the first 10 miles south of The Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help, I encountered the strongest headwind I have yet  encountered on my bike.  It didn't seem to matter which direction I turned.  Coincidence??  I think not, but..

God is good.

One pedal stroke at a time.  Mile by (slow) mile.  He gave me the strength to push through and not give in to discouragement!  He even helped me to actually hear the Divine Mercy Chaplet through the sound of the wind.

Wouldn't you know it?  The wind finally died down shortly after the Chaplet ended and I was able to regain a decent pace.  THAT was His Divine Mercy (in my life, at that moment, anyway)!

An unexpected road closure ("water over the roadway" sign) and stretch  of gravel road; steep hill and a little rain...  Here I am.  Having carried your prayer intentions through it all, I've made it safely to my first overnight.  (God be praised!)  I will carry them on tomorrow.

Good night and thank you for your prayers!

Prayer Requests

I thank you for your patience as I try to update this page from the road.  I can't believe I'm going to type this, but...  I miss an electronic gadget!  A laptop computer would be most welcome tonight.  🙂

Anyway, we have a new page on the site!  Take a look above and click on 'Prayer Requests.'  I hope this helps, as we have had many people ask how/where they can share their intentions.

Finding Peace

Time is passing quickly now as preparations continue for the pilgrimage.

Sometimes, in the "crazy busy" of life, we forget to slow down and just be in God's presence.  I needed to be reminded of this last weekend.

On the 100th anniversary of the first apparition of Our Lady of Fatima, I was blessed to be here:

Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe
La Crosse, Wisconsin

Praying for you and for your intentions, I remain...

Yours in the Peace of Christ,

Our Lady of Fatima, pray for us!
